Carrymore is incredibly proud to be a member of the 1% For The Planet global network. We chose to join the 1% for the Planet movement as its nonprofit partners focus solely on finding solutions to some of the worst environmental issues facing the planet today.
Currently, of all global philanthropy that occurs each year, only 3% goes to the environment and, only 3% of that comes from businesses.
The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of fellow member businesses is doing its valuable part to increase giving and support to on the ground outcomes.
"We're excited to welcome Carrymore to our global network, says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet. "Members of 1% for the Planet contribute one percent of annual sales directly to any of the approved nonprofit environmental organisations in the network. Nonprofits are approved based on referrals, track record and environmental focus."
To date, the 1% For The Planet global network has donated more than $175 million to environmental nonprofit partners and this is increasing every year through consumer support and awareness.
Help Fight The War On Waste!
Being a member of 1% For The Planet means that 100% of our contributions go directly to the environmental nonprofit partner of our choosing. So we want to make sure we are supporting a foundation that is aligned with our mission. To help fight the war on waste and end plastic pollution!
Why Plastic Pollution?
Plastic pollution is now recognised as one of the most pressing environmental issues known to man. Being most visible in developing Asian and African nations, where garbage collection systems are often inefficient or nonexistent.
Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of that plastic waste finding its way into our oceans and waterways where it becomes almost impossible to deal with.
Sad Truths About Plastic Pollution
- Today, single-use plastics account for 40 percent of the plastic produced every year. Many of these products, such as plastic bags and food wrappers, have a lifespan of mere minutes to hours, yet they may persist in the environment for hundreds of years.
- According to an Ellen MacArthur Foundation report, it's estimated that 8 million metric tons of plastic ends up in our oceans every year, which is equivalent to dumping the contents of one garbage truck into the ocean every minute.
- The same study found that without action, by 2050 there may be more plastic in the ocean than sea life. In fact there is already one part of the ocean where plastic out-numbers sea life six-to-one. It's aptly named the Great Pacific garbage patch and is already estimated to be twice the size of Texas.
- Plastic pollution has a direct and deadly effect on wildlife. Thousands of seabirds, sea turtles, and marine mammals are killed each year after ingesting plastic or getting entangled in it.
Who Can Help Fight Plastic Pollution?
The simple answer to this is, we all can! Simply by starting to become aware of the waste and single-use plastic in our lives we can take steps to reduce and ideally, avoid it all together. Reduce. Refuse. Reuse. Recycle. Is the mantra that we can all adopt to help tackle this problem together.
But when it comes to dealing with the waste that slips through our garbage collection and waste management systems, thankfully there is one organisation having a measureable impact across the globe.
An organisation who also happens to be our environmental nonprofit partner. Meaning when you support us you are also supporting them.
Introducing The Seabin Project
On A Mission To Clean The World's Oceans With Floating Rubbish Bins!
The Seabin was created to suck up rubbish from marinas around the world. It's a simple but brilliant idea and the company has already removed over 100,000kg of trash from the ocean..
Australian Owned & Operated!
"If we have rubbish bins on land, why not in the water?" Pete Ceglinski, an Aussie boat builder and sailor by trade, founded Seabin in 2015 with fellow boat builder Andrew Turton. As the name hints, Seabin acts as a floating rubbish collector that are cleaning up our oceans.
